Business ethics is the one subject in a business degree where the right answer is not a rule you can look up. An Introduction to Business Ethics, 6th Edition by Joseph Des Jardins builds outward from moral theory, so a case about layoffs or advertising is really a question about which principle is doing the work and what it commits you to. Students who skim the theory chapters and jump to the cases can say they disagree with an argument but not why it fails, and that distinction is exactly what the assessment is written to find.
Why this test bank helps
An ethics question with a plausible-sounding answer on every line is not testing your opinion; it is testing whether you can name the reasoning. Each item here is followed by an explanation that identifies the framework in play — what a consequentialist would count as relevant, where a rights-based objection bites, why a virtue account reframes the question rather than answering it. Working through those explanations builds the vocabulary that essay questions in this course also reward.

Who it’s for
Undergraduates taking business ethics as a required course in a management, finance or accounting program, philosophy students meeting applied ethics through business cases, and MBA students using this edition for the ethics component of a core module.
How to use it (the right way)
Read the theory chapters properly before touching the applied ones, and after each case ask yourself which principle you actually used. Then work a block closed-book, and for every item you missed, write the competing argument out in a sentence before reading the rationale. It is a study aid, to be used in line with your institution’s academic-integrity policy, as practice for your own thinking rather than a replacement for the essays and cases the course sets.
Sample question (shows the format — your download contains the full set)
Q. A manager rejects a plan to mislead customers about a product limitation, reasoning that doing so would treat those customers merely as a means to the company’s ends. Which framework is she applying?
- A. Rule utilitarianism
- B. Kantian deontology
- C. Virtue ethics
- D. Ethical relativism
Answer: B. Treating persons never merely as a means is the second formulation of the categorical imperative, and the reasoning is about the nature of the act rather than its results. Rule utilitarianism would justify the refusal by the consequences of the general rule. Virtue ethics would ask what an honest person would do, framing it as character rather than duty. Relativism would defer to prevailing practice, which she does not.
