A course that teaches three applications in one semester leaves almost no room to repeat anything, and that is where marks quietly disappear. The Design Collection Revealed, 2nd Edition by Chris Botello moves through Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and then, crucially, through the workflow that joins them, so the written assessment tends to ask about the seams: which application owns which job, what a placed file is doing in a layout, and what happens to a document when the artwork behind it changes. Students who followed every lab click by click often cannot answer those.
Why this test bank helps
Following a tutorial builds muscle memory; it does not build the vocabulary an exam is written in. Every question here is followed by a written rationale that names the concept behind the click — why an adjustment layer is non-destructive, why a link differs from an embedded asset, why a document destined for print is set up differently from one destined for a screen. That reasoning is what lets you answer a question about a panel you have used a hundred times without ever reading its name.
What’s inside
- Questions following the book’s chapter sequence across all three applications, so each unit has matching practice.
- Terminology, tool-identification and applied workflow items, in the mix this course tends to be assessed with.
- A written rationale for every question, explaining the underlying concept rather than restating a menu path.
- Dedicated attention to color modes, resolution and file formats, where the most avoidable mistakes are made.
- One organized PDF, ready to download as soon as checkout completes.
Topics covered
- Photoshop fundamentals — layers, selections, masks, adjustment layers and image resolution.
- Illustrator fundamentals — paths and anchor points, fills and strokes, Pathfinder operations and gradients.
- InDesign fundamentals — master pages, text and graphic frames, threading text and paragraph styles.
- Color management — RGB against CMYK, spot against process color, and choosing a mode for the intended output.
- Typography — typefaces and families, tracking, kerning and leading, and type as an editable object versus outlines.
- File formats and output — native PSD, AI and INDD files, PDF export presets, packaging and print versus web delivery.
- Integration between the applications — placing native files, linked against embedded assets and updating modified links.
- Design principles — visual hierarchy, alignment, contrast and consistency, as the book applies them to layouts.
Who it’s for
Students in a digital design, desktop publishing or graphic communication course taught from this edition, and self-directed learners working through the book to build a portfolio-ready command of the three applications together rather than one at a time.
How to use it (the right way)
Attempt a block of questions with the applications closed. Being able to find a command by hunting the interface is a different skill from knowing what it does, and only the second one is being examined. Read the rationale for everything, then reopen the software and locate the feature you just read about, which fixes the term to the thing. This is a study aid, to be used in line with your institution’s academic-integrity policy, for preparation and self-testing rather than as a substitute for the coursework or as material carried into a graded assessment.
Sample question (shows the format — your download contains the full set)
Q. In InDesign, a placed graphic shows a modified-link icon in the Links panel. What does this indicate?
- A. The original file has been edited since it was placed, and the link needs updating
- B. The graphic is embedded in the document and no longer references an external file
- C. The graphic uses a color profile that conflicts with the document profile
- D. The effective resolution of the graphic is too low for print output
Answer: A. A modified link means InDesign is displaying a cached preview of a file that has since changed on disk; updating the link brings in the current artwork. B describes an embedded asset, which appears with a different indicator and no longer tracks the source file at all. C would be reported as a color management warning, not a link state. D is a resolution issue flagged at preflight, again a separate warning from the link status.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the current edition? This set is prepared against the 2nd Edition. Design software titles are revised as the applications change, so if your syllabus lists another edition, choose that listing.
How do I receive it? Instantly, as a PDF on your order confirmation page and in your account after checkout completes.
Do all the questions include rationales? Yes. Each answer explains the concept behind it, which is what makes the practice useful when the interface changes.
Is using a test bank allowed? As a revision resource it is ordinary study practice. Follow your institution’s academic-integrity policy and keep it out of graded assessments.
